Why Apply for Social Security Disability Benefits?

If eligible, you should apply for SSDB because:

  • Your Social Security disability claim is approved, you will receive a monthly payment equal to the amount that you would receive from Social Security if you had reached full retirement age. Your SSDB will begin on the date the Social Security Administration establishes as your date of disability. The Social Security Administration limits retroactive cash benefits to 12 months prior to the filing date.
  • Medicare health insurance coverage is provided to Social Security disability recipients after they have been receiving SSDB for 2 years.
