Firefighters Lobby in Albany

New York State Firefighters lobbied in Albany Monday for an updated legislative agenda.

The Firemen’s Association of the State of New York, the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs, and the Association of Fire Districts of the State of New York came together to push an agenda which includes cancer coverage for volunteer firefighters, allowing fire companies to charge for ambulance services, and requiring “seal in 10 year batteries” for smoke alarms.

According to studies, firefighters face a higher risk of cancer due to carcinogen exposure in the line of duty. Unfortunately, there is currently no assistance given to volunteer firefighters diagnosed with cancer.
