NY State Film Tax Credit Puts Tens of Thousands of NY Union Members to Work Each Year

The New York State Film and Television Tax Credit has made New York a leader worldwide in securing movie and television production which in turn puts tens of thousands of New York union members to work each year.

According to a recent article from The New York State AFL-CIO, The New York State Film and Television Tax Credit program has created nearly 50,000 middle class jobs across New York State in 2017.  This translates to $4.3 billion in personal income and $6.7 billion in local spending.

Entertainment industry employers are only eligible for the credit after production has been completed and the jobs have been created.  The credit is specifically designated to wages for people working on film and television productions.

The New York State Film and Television Tax Credit is a major contributor to spending, investment and labor in New York State. The credit has led to tens of thousands of jobs in construction, catering, transportation, and hospitality.  This takes takes into account for the well over 30 sound-stages that have been constructed since 2016 and the over $500 million in investment!
